Growing up in a deeply religious community, I was steeped in the belief that by the age of 32, I would witness the 'End Times'—a period where the Anti-Christ would wreak havoc on Earth- and where only God’s purest would be raptured.
This prophecy, coupled with the mandate to seek forgiveness nightly to avoid eternal damnation, inflicted me with severe OCD stemming from religious trauma. At 17, I moved to Los Angeles with just $30, seeking a fresh start.
However, I soon found myself entangled in a Christian cult. This period of my life coincided tragically with the loss of my father, deepening my crisis of faith and identity. Through my film, I explore the themes of The End Times, the scars of religious trauma, and the impact of grief on the vulnerable.
This story is a personal reflection on how grieving a loved one can drive people to seek answers - whether that’s in religion or cults, making them vulnerable to manipulation.
Agonist is currently in the process of creating the feature length version, with CAA packaging it.
